Salt Water, Healing Powers ...

Took the long weekend off from the internet, enjoying 3 full days with my DH home all day. Yesterday, we went to the beach to soak in the warm, salty water of the Gulf. The current was very strong, never been to this beach when it was this way. Had to dig in my toes, and could let my body relax full forward toward the current, which held me up and often caused a loss of balance.

Let my arm totally relax and float and bob in the water, getting the gentle, soothing exercise of the waves and current. Incisions soaking up some extra healing. At one point, we had a downpour while in the gulf and it was sooo much fun! Face level with the warm, salty water, while the heavy raindrops danced on the surface, cold on our heads and faces. Ahhh, the joy of time spent together, relaxing...

Grandparents

Two who were instrumental for the teachings by example of real, honest, down to earth, loving step- grandparents throughout my lifetime.  Not possible to write about Nanna, or Grampy without the other.  They were never without the other, until he passed and then I know he was still very much with Nanna.  I learned so much from each individually, and together as husband and wife.

While Grampy had passed about 20 years earlier than Nanna, from Alzheimer's, Nanna carried on until 5 months before her 100th birthday.  Tenacity and just plain lack of expectation that she should go anywhere!

Nanna always kept Pepperidge Farm cake in her freezer, a can of whipped cream in the refrigerator, and colorful, pastel, mint candies in the dish beside her chair to share with us grand kids.  She who was the very first telephone operator in town, right out of their home.  She who at the age of five, contracted polio causing her to wear a brace on one leg since before we ever knew one another.

Still hanging clothes on the line, singing and moving to her good friends accordion playing, and chasing after us kids who took advantage of the kindness and always gentle scolding.  "You kids are going to get belly aches if you don't stop eating those apples".

When I was not allowed to wear long pants to school, Nanna let me hide a pair at her house where I would stop to and from school to change.  She was my friend and confident.
I love you both Nanna and Grampy, you left behind many tiny legacies...

Jumping Off Places Meme ... Week 10 April 29, 2011

Week 10: Gasping for air, I literally thought my lungs would burst! A peaceful quiet surrounds me as I am embraced in a loving lightttt... none of it matters any longer...

Gasping again. Can't breath. Choking, trying to inhale beyond the water and interuption that has penetrated my world. Mother had gone for a walk on the beach with her girlfriends, Liz rescues me from drowning. We are at Old Silver Beach again, a few miles from our home on Cape Cod. None of us sisters can swim, the drop off was closer to the edge and unexpected.

Breathing in gulps, begging Liz not to tell, for I would surely be punished. Please, please Liz, you don't know her. Please don't tell!
